Responsibilities
The medical expertise unit (Cellule d'expertise médicale - CEM) was created by the law of December 17, 2010 reforming the health care system.
Its missions are specified in article 65bis (1) of the Social Security Code and cover three main themes:
- Provision of scientific opinions at the request of the Nomenclature Commission or on medical devices and other areas related to health and social security;
- Analysis of health and social security data;
- Methodological collaboration in the standardisation of medical practices.
In addition to its scientific activities, the CEM is responsible for the secretariat of the Scientific Council for Health Care and provides technical support services.
